Allie’s Helping Hands Partners with Orange Label to Design Volunteer Curriculum for CHOC

Booklets Outline “Day of Play” for Siblings of Patients at Children’s
Hospital of Orange County

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#adagency–Orange County-based nonprofit Allie’s Helping Hands worked with Orange
Label Art + Advertising to release a “day of play” curriculum for the
siblings of children with critical health conditions at Children’s
Hospital of Orange County (CHOC). Allie’s Helping Hands was established
to strengthen and support siblings of children diagnosed with a serious
illness. The organization offers volunteer-based companionship, fun
outings, homework help and practical assistance to siblings.

These illustrated guidebooks outline “Sib Spots,” or sibling-oriented
workshops that include creative game ideas and discussion questions. Sib
Spots provide a platform for siblings to meet other siblings and talk
about the ups and downs of having a sister or brother with critical
health conditions, all in a fun and engaging environment. These training
materials are designed to help volunteers set-up and host Sib Spots on
the hospital grounds.

Orange Label’s creative team worked directly with Allie’s Helping Hands
Founder and Director Kristen Spalding to create a series of themed
booklets: Winter, Fall, Summer, Spring, Camp Sib and Super Hero. Each
booklet describes activities specific to the theme; for example, the
Summer booklet details activities such as crab-walk relays and “Beach
Ball Q&A,” while the Camp Sib booklet includes a scavenger hunt and
campfire songs.

“Whatever we turned over to CHOC, I wanted to make sure we reflected a
good name for Allie’s Helping Hands, so that’s why I reached out to
Orange Label who illustrated the curriculum and added all of the
graphics and photos. It brought a lot of life to what normally would be
just black and white curriculum,” said Kristen.

Orange Label Agency Principal Rochelle Reiter also commented on the
project: “The Orange Label team is inspired by the vision of Allie’s
Helping Hands and wanted to ensure that the brand for the ‘Sib Spot’
materials reflected the care and thought put into the program. By adding
a whimsical feel to the visual elements, the Orange Label creative
design team was able to capture the spirit of fun that siblings
experience with their day of play.”

As the sibling of a child with a critical health condition, Kristen
Spalding was inspired to establish Allie’s Helping Hands as a support
system for hospital patients and their families. Allie’s Helping Hands
works with volunteers and local hospitals to provide the siblings of
children diagnosed with a serious illness with a “day of play.” These
events give siblings an opportunity to participate in fun and engaging
activities while meeting other children going through the same
experience. Volunteers lead sibling-oriented events and activities. For
